I'd forgotten how much they smoked on air back then

Wow. I grew up watching the original SCTV episodes (even before they went to NBC) and loved them but watching them all over again on DVD it struck me how much of the time one or more of the cast members are smoking in the sketches.

You sure don't see that anymore do you?

But it is alittle depressing watching the 1982 Life Magazine photo shoot and seeing how young and handsome everyone was and then seeing the modern day interviews with them and seeing how hard time has been on them (well, on us all actually). Dave and Joe look like different people with all the wrinkles and saggy jowels now and much less hair and that photographer looks like the Witch of the West now although he wasn't anything to write home about back 23 years ago either.

I wondered if they intend to spread the interviews out over different sets because I noticed Rick Moranis is conspicuously absent on the DVD set I have. At least in contemporary interviews.

an early episode with Johnny LaRue had him on a cooking show where he was doing a dinner for people on welfare ... he puts his cigarette out in the meal... it was sick and funny at the same time.

Smoke me a kipper. I'll be back for breakfast
