IT WAS ALRIGHT IN THE 1970S programme comments.

Channel 4 in the UK showed a thing tonight called IT WAS ALRIGHT IN THE 1970S.
It was a poor show for CHANNEL 4,more like a CHANNEL 5 thing.

Lots of comics I had never heard off aired their views on stuff made before they were born.
The idea that the tv of a period reflects the period itself seemed beyond them,tv was racist because lots of people were racist.

Of course THE PROFESSIONALS was an easy target for their mostly shallow comments.

It did not seem to occur to these nobodies that THE PROFESSIONALS sometimes did self parody,a blonde nurse with a grenade down her bra.

Of course there is a lot to be critical of in 1970s tv,the programme I mention is part of a series but it cannot decide between a serious study of the 1970s via tv and an entertainment show.

I think that THE PROFESSIONALS had a lot of good episodes and was not just violent sexist crap, although sometimes it was but they made a lot of episodes and some were very good.

Still one of my favourite TV shows of all time, along with 'Terry' era Minder.

I did initially give the C4 programme the benefit of the doubt but it soon became apparent that I was being foolishly optimistic in thinking that the past would get a reasonable and fair hearing in today’s climate. Clips were taken out of context, with no thought to the idea that these programmes occasionally had their tongues in their cheeks, cherry picked for anything that might paint the decade in a bad light, and with the younger talking heads being not only at the disadvantage of being born too late to experience this material first-hand, but not knowing much about the subject, and instead of doing their research and exploring the good, the bad and the ugly of the decade, seemed happy to just be drip-fed the ugly parts by the programme makers and respond accordingly with their impersonations of Edvard Munch's the scream.

Its not like the past doesn’t occasionally have a flawed character, and an intelligent programme about the subject would be welcome, but that is clearly not what we got with this lazy, immature effort. Some of the older talking heads did occasionally have valid and insightful comments to make, but for the most part seeing the past being spat on and defiled by this lynch mob, and seeing dead comedians who aren’t around to defend themselves being portrayed as rapists, was no fun at all and I quickly gave into the temptation of hitting the fast forward button.

This programme (It Was All Right In...) is no more than media-sanctioned shaming. Not to mention that Daily Mail-type approach of revelling in 'how horrific this is'.

that was a very irritating programme. i daresay if they tried they could find plenty of thibgs in today's tv programmes to dislike. as for the girl with the genade down her bra - frankly I think it would be worth it to have Bodie fish it out.

Ha, so true. I loved this show and I loved Bodie.

On a different note, Louise, I've seen you around on several boards and as the message boards are closing down now, I'd like to say good-bye, it was a pleasure. :)

How very kind of you. i will miss your posts too. i have signed up for a couple of other movie boards, one is imdbv.2, which seems to have quit a few people from here joining, and the other is movieforums.com. neither are as interesting as this one, but they are better than nothing.
