Valentine's father?

Was Ross Poldark his father?

reply

Given the time of Valentine's birth, his size at birth (he appeared to be the size of a full-term baby) and his later resemblance to Ross, I think it's pretty clear that Ross was the father, although it was never said so explicitly.

reply

And I think Elizabeth's words to the doctor from whom she purchases the draught in series 2 makes it clear that she believes Ross to be Valentine's father. (Doesn't she tell the doctor that her first child was full term, but she told her husband he was premature?)

reply

It is quite clear in the books that Ross is Valentines father. Demelza also knew this.

reply

So when Elizabeth holds a Bible in her hand and swears on it to George that she's never lain with anyone but him and her first husband, she's lying through her teeth. heh

reply

Not quite. But her wording is clever. She had never truly given herself to Ross, but merely allowed him to take.

It's obvious from the afterward scene that neither was satisfied by the experience.

For anyone who didn't read the books, the closing words of the seventh novel The Angry Tide are about George observing Elizabeth's three children and realizing that none of them look like her and that all look like their fathers. This makes him sad.

The Fabio Principle: Puffy shirts look best on men who look even better without them.

reply

That will make for an interesting twist in the new series. George Warelggan is played by a blond and Elizabeth by. Brunette.

reply

In the 7th novel, The Angry Tide, George, Ross, and Elizabeth all know Ross is Valentine's father.

Each of them lives the lie which leads to a sad end.
