Best book?

I haven't read any of the novels, and I haven't decided whether or not I should. I was wondering, does the quality vary? Are some books better than others? Do they start well and dip in quality, or do they get better?

The first four, which are really just four parts of a glorious whole, are the best, 5-7 are good but not quite as good, 8-10 are worth reading, 11 is a slog and 12 (given the author's age) is an admirable capstone.

Have fun

I have my favorites that I stayed up reading all night and my not-so favorites.

I loved Ross Poldark and Demelza but Jeremy Poldark was kind of slow moving. I loved Warleggan but the Black Moon was not my favorite probably because of some of the Ross/Caroline scenes and we got introduced to Demelza's two brothers and Elizabeth's cousin who I didn't really have much interest in, at first. I ended up really loving all these characters. I thought The Four Swan's was better and I stayed up until four in the morning reading The Angry Tide because I couldn't put it down.

And that's how far I'm up to. I'm going to start The Stranger from the Sea some time this week.
