ANYONE INTERESTED IN A RE-MAKE?!

I personally would LOVE to see a re-make of this series. Either as a TV series or a movie. It is a great plot line and just think what special effects could be done in this day and age, 30 years later!

Also, does anyone remember a series that came out about the same time where the guy was able to change his body to accommodate whatever danger he was in. For instance if he was drowning he could stop breathing or if he was going to be electrocuted he could make his body absorb the electricity? It was a pretty good show but I was so young that I don't remember much about it. It seemed like THE INCREDIBLE HULK was out about that same time, too.

Another GREAT re-make would be THE LANG OF THE GIANTS or THE LAND OF THE LOST!!!

Warm Regards, Pamela

Pamela,
Remakes are getting worn thin. Did you see the Remake of Kolchak the NightStalker? Horrible. How about the remake movie of Knight RIder this past sunday, Stupid wasnt it?
Alot of these 60s 70s and 80s tv shows are loved by many people because they were good, a little cheesy and chock full of bad effects, but they were alot of fun to watch. Which is what is wrong with Tv today, It aint much fun. Remaking these shows does one thing, makes them worse than they already are. They arent going to reach a new audience or break any new ground. I would rather them put some money into releasing a nice DVD set with some extras than wasting money on a silly Sunday movie of the week or a ill acted and plotted remake series that might make 6 episodes. And I think Land of the Lost and Land of the Giants should be left well alone, along with any other 60s 70s 80s series. They remake too much and they are never ever never any where near as good as the original. Enjoy your VHS tapes and DVDs and sometimes bootlegs of these shows, they are better than ever now, especially when compared to whats on now.

Absolutely NOT! They'd never be able to find anyone to replace Patrick Duffy as mark, so why bother, just for the sake of sfx? Leave it as it is. I am SICK of endless remakes, which are never as good as the originals I watched in my younger days, and that includes the current The Prisoner abomination!

I was a pretty young guy when this came out. I just barely remember it.

Personally, I would LOVE to see a remake of this.

It could be done very well these days. They didn't have good visual effects back then and they've learned so much since then.

As for finding someone to play Mark:
They definitely COULD find someone to play him.

I personally can see Patrick Duffy taking on the role of the admiral.
It'd be an interesting turn about.

So I say GO FOR IT!

Thats interesting,i was thinking of this for so long now, i do love Man From Atlantis, and definetly would love to see a remake,Patrick Duffy is not that old, i think he can STILL play Mark, that , and getting someone else as Mark, would be like having someone else playing JR EWING in Dallas other than Larry Hagman .And definetly THE MUSIC LINE should be THE SAME, WITH LITTLE REMIXES IN BETWEEN, BUT THE EXACT SAME LINE.

I wouldn't mind seeing a remake, but I think they'd make a movie with a MORE known hero with similar abilities...ie Aquaman, before they made an actual remake for this. I was 7 years old when this came out, and since it only lasted one season, I know the younger crowd wouldn't be as into it as we would be who know this actual character. Hell, I used to even have the webbed hands I used in the lake all the time...lol These younger kids wouldn't be into it though...they'd rather Aquaman if anything.

I think that remaking an old tv show just because now you have better special effects, is wrong. The only good reason to remake a show or a film, is if you can add somethig new and original to the concept, something that will increase it's artistic value - a good example of that is the new version of Battlestar Galactica. On the other hand, a bad example of a remake is the new version of Knight Rider, where you had good special effects but lousy character and story developement - the exact opposite of the original show, which in spite of being a little cheesy, had excelent special effects for its time and even better story and character developement.
The Man From Atlantis is probably the tv show I remember the best from my childhood. I was 7 years old when it first aired in Portugal 30 years ago, in 1980, and I became totaly hooked on the show. I never missed an episode, and everytime I took a bath I would fill the bathtub to the top so that I could imitate Mark's swiming style - much to the desperation of my Mother who afterwards had to clean up the mess I made of the bathroom!:) Every summer the portuguese television would re-run the show - and this went on for the better part of the 80's - and I would always watch it, always. Great show, great time of my life. That's why I'm so divided when it comes to a remake of this show: part of me thinks it's better to leave it untouched, to let it become a part of that small selection of tv treasures from the 60's, 70's and 80's, that can be enjoyed on DVD both by the older and the newer generations. The other part of me thinks the concept is so good that it could make a great new show, if done by the right people - maybe the same guys who remade Battlestar Galactica, I don't know. Just...don't do it simply to show better special effects - it's the wrong possible reason to make or remake any show. To tell a good story, that's the only reason you should do it; special effects are just a tool you use to better tell the story.
Anyway, what I do know is that a DVD release of this show is long overdue for Portugal, so release it already!

Absolutely agree. I'd rather they not re-make Man From Atlantis if they are not going to do it right. With the proper treatment, I would love to see a new incarnation of this show.

Hell yes remake this! See what happens like everything else.
It could be the worst thing since... (insert your most dreaded reboot) or it could be as cool as the BSG Reboot.

We always think these remakes will be better because we are so much more advanced and can do things so much better. But we really have not advanced in being able to write a more compelling story. Writers and TV execs are no more "tuned in" to what makes and entertaining series than they have ever been. Today's shows are different. They attempt things based on modern trending. But they are just as often bad these days as they ever have been.

What seems to work best is when people set out to make something they really want to do and try to bring their own passion to it, instead of simply thinking "couldn't we make an excellent Man from Atlantis these days? Who knows? I'd watch it. Better bad sci-fi than no sci-fi. Or so I thought until the SyFy people started making horrible horrible movies.

two, or maybe one word, not sure sure yet.. AQUA MAN

I'd give it a shot!

Problem is. Current hollywood trend is to mock a old TV series rather than do it propperly, or if they dont mock it. Then they change it so much its essentially some near unrelated movie with the title slapped on.
