What Did This Air Against Back Then?

I never watched this. What did it come on opposite on the other channels?

I think it'd be interesting to try to watch now. See how much of it I could tolerate.

I want to suspect it aired opposite Eight Is Enough.

If it came on Tuesday night, that was Happy Days, so that's that.

reply

I remember it on Sunday afternoons....perhaps I watched it in syndication? I don't remember it airing at night.

reply

Yeah supposedly it originally aired for 2 seasons in 1977 & 78...but like you, I remember watching it mainly/only on Sunday afternoons from maybe 1980 onward through the rest of the decade. I have the series on DVDs I bought online in 2007 or 08, but they were burned discs made from VHS recordings from when the series ran on FX in 1994 (that network's debut season) and a few episodes possibly in syndication on TBS in the 1980s? (Probably when most of us who were children in the early to mid 1980s remember watching it, it was in syndication on TBS or something.)

reply

It totally vanished in my area (the south) after it was cancelled. No synication or nothing.

I do recall NBC had a terrible time getting something to air against Sixty Minutes, so just out of spite, I watched nearly everything I could that aired opposite it, such as Ron Howard's Thru the Magic Pyramid, Maureen Stapleton as the Electric Grandmother and occasionally Voyagers (more than I realized, it seems).

So someone may have rerun Grizzly Adams at that time.

reply

Maybe. What I remember about watching Grizzly Adams as a child in the early 1980s or so was that it aired on Sunday afternoons (obviously reruns in syndication) and just before it (or after?) the same network aired reruns of the 1960s series 'Wild Wild West'...because I remember watching a bit of that, then Grizzly Adams would come on around 5PM or so?

reply

If it aired Sunday night, that's why I have no recollection of it. We went to church.

reply

It maybe have been Tuesdays but for some reason I remember it being on Mondays. Or maybe Little House was on on Mondays? Whatever day it had to have been on at 8PM because my bedtime was 9. :)

reply

That's mainly what's throwing me; what time on the night it aired.

If it was Mondays, it was after Little House by then, and that would have been a phenomenal glut, hence why no one watched it.

Father Murphy aired on Tuesday night, I recall.

If Grizzly aired on Wednesday, that would have been Bionic Woman, Charlies Angels, Baretta on ABC, so Grizzly was out.

Well, that's that. Somehow I knew Eight Is Enough had a part in it, but I was a Good Times watcher as well, so Grizzly Adams was never to be seen in my household.

Seems like I recall my sister watching it a few times later on.

Ah, for the era of no recording devices.

All the Grizzly Adams episodes are uploaded on youtube anyway. It doesn't look very thrilling to me.
