I managed to tape a few of these when A&E replayed them in the early 80's. I have to search for them.

reply

I found a bunch of these A&E airing on some beta tapes recently

I would love to see any or all of these shows.

I was the same age as the lead character when this series was on the air and I related to it a great deal.

I watched some Episodes at the The Museum of Television and Radio in New York. The Music rights could problem in getting this show released. In the Episodes I have screened music was used from Fleetwood Mac, Foreigner, The Doobie Brothers,Gorden Lightfoot, Cat Steevens, James Taylor, Simon & Garfunkel and The Steve Miller Band. To get the rights to have all this music to put in on a James at 15/16 DVD set could be costly for 20th Century Fox who has been having problems with the Wonder Years music rights for a potential DVD release.

Fox replaced much of the Music on WKRP in Cincinnati season 1 set (Which is still enjoyable but the changes take their toll). If they were to ever release James at 15/16 one season Fox would proably make the same mistake.

I dont understand why music in a 30 year old tv show would keep it from being put on DVD. Seems to me, the artists who had their music used in the show would be happy to have it brought back for new generations to hear and appreciate! Some of them might even try to purchase some of the "OLD STUFF".

I was about the same age as James in this show as a kid, so it always was one of my fave shows. It was only on for a year or so, but made a lasting impression on me. Ive always tried to find copies, but have only one VHS tape I found several years ago on Amazon. It contains the made for tv movie and the pilot episode. It was a "Fast Food Films" title distributed by Madacy Entertainment. Not easy to find anymore, but I guess a few copies may pop up once in awhile on Ebay.

Ive also always liked the 70s tv version of "Salems Lot" with Lance in it. I have the DVD and VHS versions of that also. It would be cool to see a version released with interviews with Lance and the other remaining actors still alive.

Im glad to know that Lance Kerwin is doing well. I miss seeing him in film and television-and I hope he might show up again someday and make a comeback appearance for all of us old fans of his. If not, take care and God bless you and your family Lance!

$hit! It's been 30 years!?!? Damn time flies....

Speaking as a musican/artist who has recorded my own material and recorded covers of other musicians songs, you have to (by law) secure rights to reproduce/use other musicans material. This costs money which can be as little as "free" to "Ka-ching!". How much you'd have to pay is determined by things like:

1. the artist/band
2. what you plan to use someones work for
3. how many copies you expect to make & sell

Now before you all roll your eys and think this is a rip off, consider this: most musicians (especially those from the "pre-indie" artist era) rarely see much $$ from their work -- even the "big name" artists like The Stones and Beatles. This is one of the few systems put in place that will assure most musicians of getting some kind of royalty income.

Even if most of the musicians were willing to let their music be used they'd probably like to get something for the revenue that would be generated by the DVD sales. I'm afraid that all the legal rangling it would take between the musicians, their reps, and the shows producers just to come to a consensus is enough to prevent the DVD for James being released with all that cool music on it.

I am watching the episodes now on YouTube. I watched at least a couple of episodes when the show was originally on and wanted to check it out again.
Some of the music is just in the background and I think they could strip some of it out without losing too much.

I wonder if an instrumental version of a song is dramatically cheaper than a version with the original lyrics. They might be able to go that route on some songs as well.

There isn't an official DVD but at www.ioffer.com there are a few people who are selling them.

The most expensive is at 75 dollars and the cheapest I could find was 45 dollars.

There are also some dvds that has just the pilot premiere movie for much cheaper. Like 8 dollars.

So do a search there for James 15 16 tv and the 45 dollar one should come up. Or I guess I could paste it here. but the search works just fine :)

I have them all from 16mm film prints that I bought years ago and transferred. This will never come out due to the music issues. Shout Factory has said as much on their website.
