Disturbing News Which May Increase Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Popularity

I was recently at www.comingsoon.net and it appears that Ben Stiller is in talks with Tom Cruise to star along with Tom in an updated version of "The Hardy Boys". If you don't want to believe me (and trust me, I really do wish I was lying) then check out the following links.

Should this movie come to fruition then that would mean that the final two seasons of "Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries" would most likely be released on dvd, but talk about paying a price!

Oh, ick, yuck, phewy, gross and vile.

DITTO! There should be a way to stop this!

I agree 100% Ben Stiller starred in the starsky&hutch movie that I wasn't fond of but it got the series released on dvd so I hope this will help the hardy boys.I bought the first season for my daughters and they love it.They keep asking when are next seasons coming out.Wish I could tell them

It's good to know that the popularity of the seventies version is still alive and strong for a new generation and now there's something else to consider. As you may already know the new "Nancy Drew" movie gets released in your country on the fifteenth of June. Do you think that if the movie is a hit then that might help? Based on the trailer I saw for it the first words out of my mouth were "Oh dear God!" but I'm a guy and not a teenage girl, so therefore I'm not going to appreciate it on their level. Still, one can only help it's a hit for more "Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries" dvds. Also there is a petition that you could sign along with your daughters if that's something you'd allow them to do. Just look at the other posts and you'll find it.

I am so glad the second season is finally coming out June 12th. Some shows I wait to buy until there is a discount but this I will be pre-ordering.

reply

I am incredibly thrilled about Season 2.

I am incredibly ANNOYED at this stupid parody Stiller and Cruise are going to attempt to pull off. My god, first they have Emma Roberts, 16, playing Nancy Drew. Now, they have Dumb and Dumber, in their 30s, playing the Hardy Boys?

What is WRONG WITH THESE HOLLYWOOD FREAKS???!!!

Ben Stiller and Tom Cruise are both in their 40's not 30's.

Ben Stiller will be 42 this November (D.O.B. 11-30-65) and Tom Cruise will be 45 in July. (D.O.B. 07-03-62)

Even though I'm only a couple of years younger than them (I'm 40), I still say they're too old to play a 17 year old and an 18 year old.

I also agree that Emma Robert is too young to play Nancy Drew. In the books Nancy Drew and her friends were 18 years old and could drive. She's 16 now, but filming started on this movie about a week and 1/2 before her 15th birthday.

Check the dates, at the time of the first post, both men were still in their 30's, though Cruise barely.
Also, the original plans for the movie had them playing the Hardy "boys" all grown up, it was to be called "The Hardy Men".
And even without the movie having been made, the final season is finally out on DVD.

I DIED IN EPISODE 81!!!

Tom Cruise, who was born July 3, 1962 and turns 51 this year, was NOT in his 30s 5 years, 8 months ago when I replied to this post or when the post I was replying to was created 6 years ago.

Ben Stiller, who was born November 30th, 1965, and turns 48 this year, was NOT in his 30s 5 years, 8 months ago when I replied to this post or when the post I was replying to was created. Or any other post on this thread for that matter.

Maybe you should try doing the math again. I even put in my first post how old each actor would be on their birthdays in 2007, the year both my post and the post I was responding to were created.

From my first post dated 06-12-2007:

Ben Stiller will be 42 this November (D.O.B. 11-30-65) and Tom Cruise will be 45 in July. (D.O.B. 07-03-62)

I was 40 when I responded to this post and the post I was responding to was only a few months old then. Both actors are older than me. Ben by 1 year, 4 months and Tom by 4 years, 9 months so there is no way either of them were in their 30s.

As for the final season, I've already received it from Amazon.com. I pre-ordered it back in early November when it was first announced and it arrived just a couple of days ago.

I heard they were making a movie called The Hardy Men, which is supposed to be the Hardy Boys all grown up (YUK!) and I'm 50!! I don't care for Tom Cruise and I can take or leave Ben Stiller depending on what day it is.

I'm a Nancy Drew / Hardy Boys fan from back when you could buy the yellow ND and blue HB hard back books for $1.00 :)

At my age, I MIGHT be interested in seeing Parker Stevenson and Shaun Cassidy reprise their roles, but I don't think they are interested - and maybe I'd rather keep the memories of my teenage crush on Parker right where they are - in my old scrapbooks along with Shaun's brother David (although I did go to see David on concert last year and it was awesome!).

Gonna run out and get Season 2 right now - can't wait to re-watch the combined Dracula epis with Nancy and the guys together - those were always fun. Back in the days before VCRs I actually used my casette recorder to tape the show's sound, so I could LISTEN to the episodes again - like a radio show. I still have the tape of the Strange Fate of Flight 608 - I have no idea why, but it does still play, staticky and skippy, but I can still hear it - I found it in a box one day and just for laughs stuck it in the car's player and sat there laughing like crazy over what a goofy teenager I was back then.

My son thinks we were definitely a weird generation of teens, but he doesn't get how Tiger Beat Mag fed our habit back then (and I guess it still does for the new generation). My old scrapbooks mean just as much to me as my high school year books. Maybe you had to be there :)

richochet67,

Actually, your teenage crush on Parker would be totally validated as an adult. He's just as good looking (if not better) now than when he was in his 20's. This guy has definately aged gracefully.

I can't believe it was Shawn I had a crush on back then (but I was like 11-12). I watch the old shows now and definately see Parker as the better looking guy....lol.

As for this Ben Stiller/Tom Cruise movie....I pray it doesn't come to fruition. I actually don't mind Ben, but I can't stand Tom Cruise! Plus...the Hardy boys are boys!!! Not men in their 40's! I could handle some 20 somethings playing them (which Parker was at the time of the series), but not 40 year olds (and I'm 42).

reply

I was looking at newer pics of Shaun and Parker, and Parker aged WAY better than Shaun, sorry Shaun.

I always prefered him anyway (Parker, that is).

One, 'cuz I'm a HUGE Frank fan, Joe not so much.

And two...I don't know, he's just got this cuteness of him, that Shaun doesn't (this referring to the 70's, not now, lol).

And also, how hard is it to get young guys to play the Hardy Boys!? Seriously!!!

OMIGOSH, THE GAS MASKED BANDITS!

reply

I liked the Hardy Boys Mysteries...but what I can't seem to stand is the fact that
they'll be older and played by old guys that just don't seem to fit the category( I mean,of course it's an older version of the boys)...but then it'll be played by Ben Stiller...funny man.
Tom Cruise....action/drama mix.
Both in their forties...
The movie is said to be a comedy....

how very sad. <:(

I hope to God Ben Stiller doesn't do this. And I *like* Ben Stiller. Tom Cruise is just a waste of a bunch of perfectly donate-able organs.

Here is how this needs to go down:

Parker & Shaun HAVE TO come back as Frank and Joe. They run the Hardy Detective Agency. But their role in the movies will be more of a cameo.

They have two sons who are cousins & grew up like brothers. Even though both of them have 2 sons, the one pair of cousins is closer than the other pair and WANT to be detectives like their dads. The other 2 boys are interested in sports, not detectives.

The boys would have to be 14 & 16, so one of them could drive, and so that they could do a few sequels and not have the boys age out.

It would not be that hard to find 4 boys who resemble Parker & Shaun.

The scripts will follow the books storylines, and someone will need to update them for the time period. Job creation, baby!!!

I really wish MY idea would come to fruition.

reply

Just aged 14 and 16? Too young. It'd be a cheesy kids movie then. Why not have them in their early 20's?

reply

Would be fabulous, but unfortunately Shaun Cassidy isn't one for reminiscing on his past career. He wouldn't even join Parker Stevenson, Pamela Sue Martin and William Schallert at the Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys reunion at the Hollywood Show this January. William Schallert who is now 90, has 2 prosthetic legs and is in a wheelchair frequently goes to those events and is always an utter delight to his fans. But with Shaun Cassidy he prefers to live in the "Now". Doesn't ever talk about his past.

and people wonder why I love the 70's so much, derp, get a clue

Bruce Lee was real. Batman was never real.

It's 2015 so a long time to wait to answer a question.
Anyway everyone should know by now that almost every series you liked as a kid or your grandparents liked as a kid, is now available on #Netflix.!!!!

Life is a journey not a destination. Fear nothing.

I am currently collecting all the original hardbacks that I couldn't afford back then, enjoying all three seasons of the series on dvd, and gunning my slot cars around the track in my garage - cannot beat our gen's entertainment! Anywhoo, RIP Mr. Schallert... Peace and teen mysteries!
