Where's the OFFICIAL reg 1 dvd release?

Sorry, but personally I have *no interest* in purchasing any 'bootleg' copies. But where-oh-where is the nice official box set release?

Anyone know who currently owns the rights to this series? (and 'America 2nite'?)

Fred Willard is more popular now than he ever was. I'm confident that there are plenty of new fans that would love to have this show available, having missed it the first time.

Seems like a no-brainer decision to me! (just like so many other opportunities for somebody else to take my money...)

I, too, would like an official box set if available. Since I wrote a great deal of the music for both Fernwood, and America, 2nite it only costs me money tosee bootleg copies sold.

I'm very anti-bootleg and hope that some sort of resolution can be arrived at so that the world can enjoy, not only Fernwood 2nite but the ENTIRE series (The Larry Sanders Show)... another series with lots of "rights and royalty issues" preventing a complete release!

bknight, you wrote alot of the fernwood music?!! you must have some connections. Find out how these shows can get released, we want our Fernwood dvds!! When Fernwood and America2night first aired I must've recorded almost all of the episodes on videotape. My tapes are not in the best shape, over 25 years old. I'm dying for a dvd release. Fernwood's one of the best comedies ever!

An offical DVD release of this brilliant satire is long overdue. I can see that in the less litigious 70's, the producers probably did not pay for the song rights to all of the pop songs that the Mirthmakers interpreted; I'm sure the song writers will want their pound of flesh before the episodes can be transferred to DVD.

I just hope that the 4 minutes that were chopped out of each episode prior to syndication on Nick-at-Night in the 1980s to accomodate the increase in commerical time are not lost and that we can eventually see each episode intact.

I have hope for an official DVD release of this show also, especially given the fact the show Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman has since been released onto DVD.

I believe both shows (Fernwood 2 Night and Mary Hartman) were originally produced by the same company, the Mary Hartman show morphing into another show called Fernwood Forever after Louise Lassiter left, with Fernwood 2 Night and America 2nite being somewhat psuedo spin offs from there. Regardless, I'm unsure who currently owns the rights to these shows but I believe there is potential for sales if they're ever offically released.

How logical is it that every POS Fox, FX, WB, or "reality" series gets a box set in its first season, yet we can't get Fernwood? Likewise, there's oodles of MASH, Gilligan, and Dukes Of Hazzard DVDs out there. "A-Team" for Chrissakes?

reply

Exactly! I couldn't agree more . . . like we need another Beverly Hillbillies boxed set. I gotta believe that there would be more interest in this show (and America 2Nite) than years-old American Idol, the Bachelor/Bachelorette nail-biters and Dancing with the Stars (?) episodes. I check every once in a while and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that someday, I'll discover that the America 2Nite and Fernwood 2-Nite DVDs have been released and available for purchase.

P.S. The Wonder Years is another series that has royalty issues (music soundtrax) and will not likely be released anytime soon. Too bad as it hasn't lost its appeal and would attract new viewers (i.e DVD sales) as well as the large audience that enjoyed the show when it was broadcast originally.
