Fernwood 2Nite

I have been waiting for quite a while for some news of a DVD release of Fernwoo 2Nite and America 2Nite. Anyone have any news of they release?

reply

Me,too. I find it to be incomprehensible that such funny shows are not available. For many years I have tried to contact Norman Lear, Martin
Mull & Fred Willard with not so much as a reply. I thought that the America
2Nites were funnier overall than Fernwood, but the series had some of the most hysterical moments on TV. I am losing faith that we will
ever see them again. DVDs with the funniest episodes of each could be done.
Let's not hold our breath too long.

Okay, okay, musiclady80, I "heard" you the first time. Not interested in bootlegs, but thanx for the offer. I wrote letters to Norman Lear and Alan Thicke asking about a DVD release, but didn't get a response. The way the economy is today, I'm baffled by the lack of interest from the "powers that be" to make $$$ by releasing a Fernwood/America 2Nite collection. Maybe the company that made the leisure suits for the mice are holding up the rights to release.

Some movies are released; others sneak out.

hahaha

Good one about the leisure suit company C-V. Actually you are probably on the right lines about the lack of a DVD release. The rights fees - and the number of people that they would go to - are likely one of the main things keeping Fernwood and America 2Nite from any DVD release. And not just the fees to the actors - clearing the music rights is often a bigger problem. The DVD release of the first season of WKRP in Cincinnati was diminished by not having the rock music that played on the original series and I'm sure that is why seasons two and three never saw the light of day.

One other word of warning for readers. Be aware that when the series was rerun on Nick at Night the episodes were edited down so you might want to avoid shelling out your hard earned cash to by copies from that source. When they showed in the late 70s they aired in a 35 minute slot and less time was allotted to commercials then. So the Nick airings cut 2 to 5 minutes per ep.

Both series were so funny that it would be wonderful to see them again one day so we can always live in hope!!

Cheers

I'll make a good Gordon, Gordon!
