Has to be the most authentic Cops show

They didnt even draw a gun. Amazing

Everyone well mostly everyone knows that Rosner wanted to cater the show to a younger audience and show the state troopers in a more positive lite and tried to be different than the dozens of other cop shows by not having shoot outs etc. But you forget one episode Bear did draw his gun and some episodes the criminals had guns. I have 3 of my family who are motorcycle LEO's 2 brother n laws and my brother. 1 BNL is in the CHP in SF area and one regular CHP aka car sister n law.

His other brother is a LAPD motor officer in West LA and my brother is a motor officer in Germany. Tho my hubby's a fellow MD most of his family are in LE or the military and has many civilian and federal LE cousins, uncles, nieces and nephew's who work in those 2 trades. And even tho we weren't even born when Chips was on TV they now all love the show.

Especially my brother and sister (I hate the in law thing) in the CHP as its very hard to get into and they have a very high standard and a very good reputation sans the recent event with the lady, but even that one imo was NOT the officers fault and I think it was proven so. But in any case one or a few bad apples does NOT make the rest bad anyway and anyone who thinks LE is like that are either law breakers or ignorant. These men and women risk life and limb every day they go to work which makes the cop haters even more idiotic.

But its still just a tv show. Not very realistic but it was fun. Most real cop shows are Cops, Vegas Strip and Alaska state troopers etc. Real LE reality shows. But even those only show the action not the hours of boredom or the paper work and court work that all my LE family whine about LOL. But as a MD myself I truly worry about my family in LE and LE in general Ive seen many LEO's hurt during my residency in a ER and such. Now I'm in practice but also just finished cardiology school and now on my 1st year of surgical school but we still work with patients as well. Anyway as my dream is to become a Cardio/Surgeon like my mom who is still practicing back in Germany.

So no Chips did have guns drawn. Just not like dirty harry etc. ;)

Dr.Nichole A. MD. Nicky was here. :D

I never revisit posts. Too busy and mature to argue.

They're not state troopers, they're highway patrol officers.

reply

Same difference. California just calls state troopers "highway patrol".

the episode "Karate" (season 4 episode 16) was just on the other night and Baricza does draw his gun in that one, to keep Danny Bonaduce from finishing beating the crap out of him with nunchucks....

reply

Yes, it's long been known that Baricza does draw his gun a couple of times over the course of the series, but the two main characters never drew their guns at anytime over the six years. That includes when the two main characters were Ponch & Jon and the last season when the two main characters were Ponch & Bobby.

on the other hand, all those routine fender benders that resulted in flying cars wasn't necessarily all that authentic.... :-)

All of a sudden Ponch is Mr. Miyagi ...! 

Did the show last long enough for them to have a break dancing episode? 

When you're driving along tailgating a vehicle that has a ramp hooked to the back of it, you have to expect things like this might happen. 

Best part of the show!

I always watch for it ... Like spotting Virginia Gregg on an episode of Dragnet. 

Then there's the hair length.

Even Getraer once said to Baricza in Vigilante (Season 4, Episode 19): "You can get a haircut; you're an officer, not a rock star."

reply

No, TJ Hooker was the most authentic cop show
