To say the very least the ending blew me away. Spoilers here so beware. I assume the fire consumed the little girl and the Godless hypocrites in the main house. I noted that this was supposed to take place in 1930 and figured the fiery ending fortold the coming world war which after 1944 ravaged the Hungarian land.

The story really emphasized the heartless condition of the average well off rural landlord. In other contexts these folk could be called "kulaks" and their devastation by post war communism was framed without further adieu, by the endings purifying flames.

The little starring actress was fantastic, her acting abilities effortless and unmatched. A very very memorable film, highly recommended.
