Dutch is not german ffs


I've seen it happen in movies before. It's really annoying for a dutchman like myself.

Then again maybe by chance therewas a Dutch and a German women on the island. The main guy clearly didn't know the difference.

As i can recall they where talking about a dutch family the whole time, but when Tom put down the phone he said something about hearing German. It's like saying Italian and Spanish are the same language.

They didn't say it was Dutch, they were guessing what it was (Dutch, German, maybe Swedish) because they didn't understand the language. Maybe you had some poor dubbing/subtitles, but it was perfectly clear in the version I saw.

It's up to the language version you watch. The one I saw was the German edition (it's title is translated to "To kill a Child"). In it, the woman on the phone speaks in French(!) - and has a French name, according to the passport the protagonist finds in the hotel.
