Music

Is the main theme (especially the one played while the partisans are being brought to the ss command) an adapted composition of some classical author or was it just composed for this movie? I noticed Klimov used it for Larisa. Can I find it somewhere?

My recollection is that the brilliantly atmospheric score is by the Soviet composer Alfred Schnittke.

This is confirmed by http://www.expergo.org/schnittke/works.htm.

Having said this he wrote a lot of film music and not very much seems to have been released separately on disc - so I very much doubt you'll find it separate from the film.

My dream is that they'll one day release a similarly lavish DVD to the new 2-disc version of Come and See with the Ascent music as a separate track.

Yes, you can indeed get the music from this film on a CD.

When the choice is between a American and a Russian film, always choose the latter.
