I love the Sexploitation genre but...

I can't stand it when they make rape out to be sexy or titillating. I'm not trying to say there should be no rape in movies. I don't think we should sugar coat life. But when you see it in these movies it comes across as though it's supposed to be hot for the viewer. What the hell? Am I wrong?

I know what you mean ... and generally agree. But you just gotta understand Russ.

It's not hot for me either. But it works somehow...

the rapes are just so distasteful and completely unnecessary. Meyer seems to delight in the rapes themselves when he really didn't need to glorify them at all. it really put me off.

I think he's a Peckinpaugh. it doesn't turn them on, he just felt it was necessary to go to the hilt for the sake of integrity.

It's not just Russ Meyer. I've seen it in a lot of Sexploitation movies. Again, it's just the way they do it that bugs me. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

And above all in the matter being that Meyer himself has a cameo of cheering/egging the rapist on in the bar rape scene. Still, he was a brilliant director and I suppose this is more or less an inevitable element for the complete lack of inhibition for the films to achieve.
