70th, 40th, and 30th Anniversaries

This movie opened in theaters on December 24, 1976, and Saturday was its 40th anniversary for that. And of course it took place in 1946, so this year is its actual 70th anniversary. And I saw it for the first time in August, 1986, so this past summer was its 30th anniversary for me personally.

About the last one, I had been going into a video rental store regularly since 1983 right after we got our first VCR, and I had noticed this movie in it for years, but for some reason just never got it out. Then one day in August, 1986, right before I went off to begin college, I decided to get it out. I then watched it several times over the next few days and really liked it, it got on my favorite movies of all time list and also became the #1 suprisingly best movie I had ever seen. I rented it out a few more times and watched it over the next few years. This store then closed in 1993 and I could find no other store that had it, and we then moved in 1997 and I became homeless until 2010 and had no way to watch it. But then in 2010 I got an apartment and a TV and dvd player, and brought alot of movies on dvd to watch. I could not find this one anywhere, but then joined netflix in March, 2013. I was going to rent it from them, but could not find it anywhere on there either. But in early 2015 I discovered and joined amazon, ans saw it for sale on there, and immidiently brough and recieved it in April, 2015, it was one of the first five things I brought from amazon. I've watched it several times since then and still like it as much as ever, and am definitly glad I got it.

And as for the 40th anniversary in December, 1976, I was 8 then and in third grade, and wasn't really into movies then, but watched alot of television, including occasional late night shows on weekends when I stayed up with my father, and do remember seeing trailers for this movie that month, which I remember pretty well and then recognized when I ended up seeing the movie about ten years later. I wasn't aware they were from this movie when I noticed it in that video store all those years, but then did remember them and placed them when I finally saw it in August, 1986.
