Why wasn't Scorsese nominated for Best Director?

And why wasn't Paul Schrader nominated for Best Original Screenplay for that matter? One of the biggest mistakes the Academy made.

A lack of foresight, which occurs all too often.

That year Rocky was the big winner. I've got no problem saying this: Taxi Driver should have beaten the pants off of Rocky. I like Rocky greatly, but Taxi Driver is the superior film.

No shit.

This will probably come off as sarcastic in print, but I hope you know I truly mean it: I salute your eloquence - laconic and effective!

Dont worry they’ve made plenty.

It didn't help that Taxi Driver was released very early in 1976 and was already a little over a year old by the time of the Oscars in early spring 1977 that honored the films of 1976.

What shocks me is that Schrader only received his first Oscar nomination (for writing First Reformed) a couple of years ago after decades of stellar work.
