the German pimps, and my take on the film

at the scene in the bar after Strozek gets out of jail, the 2 German pimps are demanding that a third guy pay them "ten thousand" since he had sex with the ho, and they say it will be "fifteen thousand" if he does it again. 10,000 Deutsche Marks would be enough to buy a new car the 70s. I didn't really get this in terms of why they were asking for so much money. And it wasn't a mistranslation in the subtititles either; they said 10,000 in German (I can understand enough German to know this).

I thought this was a very good film especially when you consider the miniscule budget. I agree with whoever said the point of the film is about how some people will be downtrodden misfits no matter where they go. Some things in the film didn't make much sense. SPOILERS Obviously the cops were called when the store was robbed, yet when they catch the old man in the grocery store, they don't even try to look for a second suspect (you'd think whoever reported the robbery would have said there were 2 robbers....). The cops also say they can't turn off the dancing chickens or chair lift, but Strozek turns them on by simply flipping a switch marked "CHAIR LIFT ON/OFF"; you would think they could flip it w/o calling an electrician.

Conc. the expensive pimps. I thought about that and for me it's just that those two guys simply want to **ck around with this guy who didn't pay. They are demanding horrendous and unrealistic prices because they can. They just want to stress the duder out and of course they are the villains anyway so they can demand whatever they want.

On your thoughts why they are not looking for Stroszek in the grocery store after the robbery... I never really got that. I can only explain it that they made a mistake or the guy who called them said something wrong and didn't mention Bruno, only the old guy as suspect.

Chair lift on/off - well... I don't want to talk *hit about those cops but hey, the scene was really excellent. So who cares...

It requires very special talents to become a great cop.

What about how the old guy could "hold" Bruno's apartment for 2 1/2 years while he was in jail? The old guy didn't have that much money to pay for 2 apartments.

I got the impression that the guy being shaken down by the pimps was from a wealthy family, hence them asking for a pile o' cash

What he said...and later on we see the 2 pimps getting out of a flashy red sports car, which seemed incongruous for a couple of small-time hoods but on reflection suggests they may have got the money they were asking for.

The pimps said that the fancy guy "bought" the girl by f--king her (without asking), and now he has to pay 10000 DM for her. while she answers "No, i Want to stay with you, don't you see that I am crying?"
10000 DM was not for a single treat. It was like a forced sale of the girl herself.
