For FANS of the film only:

I was wondering if you had a favorite song or scene in the film. My favorite song in the filmis "Woman in the Moon." Barbra's voice is amazing on that song. My favorite scene is after Esther finds John Norman in bed with that reporter and she goes downstairs smashes all the liquor bottles and then scratches up John Norman's back and bits his lip and then starts kissing him, all the while saying "I hate you."

The soundtrack is really great...Best song? Right here and now, I would pick "Lost Inside of You".

I do not know what the song was called....it was the one that Esther first sings in the beginning. I absolutely loved it...especiall the way that John looks at her...My favorite scene was probably when they were both recording Evergreen..heck I loved any scene where there was singing...the scene that got me so sad (**SPOILER**) was when John flipped the car and Esther was lying over him telling him she was scared.

My favorite song is I want Everything, if you really listen to the song, its really intresting. I love the part about movinginto the white hopuse and painting it yellow, probably going to deep, but to me its like saying that the government is not perfect, nott white, but that me. I also like the "I hate you part" but I part where they are writing lost inside of you, at the paino, and she keeps messing up, i love that.

If I became fire, would you burn up with me? Would you burn down with me?

Esther sings two songs in her first appearance in the film. Are you referring to "Queen Bee" or "Everything"?

reply

I think it was Queen Bee..thanks!!!

I totally LOVE this movie. I saw it when it first came out at the movies. I have been a fan of both ever since. Some people don't think Kris can sing very well but I say he ROCKS ;)

John Norman ripping up the road in the Ferrari...on his way over the hill with Esther's music blasting. I BAWL like a baby. I loved Kristofferson in this movie. SEXY.

reply

Or as Streisand herself says in the commentary "He's over the hill and he drives... over the hill.... oh, I hadn't thought of that before!"

I LOVE Barbra Streisand!!!! And, this is my fave Babs movie! I love the bathtub love scene the most! ...and I guess my two fave song performances are when she sings Evergreen with Kristofferson harmonizing. and, the other is the finale. I love it when she sings his song and then tears into Watch Closely Now.

Romantic, cool and Streisand emerging as a film director!!!!!

Rocks!

I can remember sitting in a sold out cinema with my mom entranced. I had badgered her so to see it. I guess I was 9. I had an A Star Is Born shirt! sigh....

This isn't really one of my favorite Barbra Streisand movies, but I did like the wedding scene and also the lead-up to "I love you/I hate you" but not that actual part.

He said it's all in your head, and I said, so's everything--
But he didnt get it.

My favorite song is Evergreen. My favorite scene is when John and Esther compose their first song together (lost inside of you) and then make love afterwards and have a candlelight bubblebath together. It was very beautiful and romantic.

Picking a favorite song or scene is almost impossible, but I love the scene when he shows up and she tells him they have to be introduced by mutual friends the he calls her in a week.

I also love (hate) the end when she is telling the EMT to get him a blanket.

As for a favorite song Evergreen dosent' even count it's so obvious. I love Queen Bee and Hellacious (sp?) Acres.

I think the best moment in this movie is when Kris Kristofferson looks at Streisand's fat ass, and manages to keep a straight face while telling her she has a great ass. He should have gotten an Oscar for getting that line out without breaking up in laughter. And this movie is just like Streisand's ass: fat, bloated and ugly. It's an utter desecration of the two vastly superior earlier versions of this story. And in case you haven't noticed, Streisand can't sing rock and roll to save her life. The very idea that someone bleating out those songs the way she did could become a star is beyond absurd. She became famous singing show tunes, and if she had any sense that's what she would have stuck to singing. This movie is the ultimate vanity project, all about Streisand's ego, and thus destroys any chance of conveying the fragile and moving love story of the previous versions. For those of you who actually like this movie, and her performance, you have my deepest sympathy for your complete lack of brains and taste.

I like Kris' "Watch Closely Now" even though he's bombed each time he sings it. And "Evergreen" is fun to watch because they were so happy then.

Why ain't you at the garden party you heathen?

Got Troll, anyone?

Anyway.. moving right along..
My favorite scene is where he puts her on stage for the first time. I love how, during "Woman in the Moon", The other Oreos are snuck in behind her, and she turns in shock apon hearing the voices, before going back to the song.
She shoots John Norman a "You Bastard" smiling look, he waves back, not able to control his glee. He'd been waiting a long time for just that moment. A priceless point in the story!

Wow...it's really tough to just pick one favorite moment. This film is breathtaking in its beauty...completely and utterly captivating.
But if I had to pick...For some reason I love the part where Barbra (Esther) comes off the stage and tells Kris (John Norman) he's blowing her act. When he says "okay," well, I'm pretty sure that was the moment I fell in love with him. There's so much sincerity and goodness in his eyes in that moment. It's the first time you see beyond the macho, rockstar exterior and into the beautiful person inside. I love when he accidentally says, we'll have "beaten breakfast" instead of beaten biscuits and he laughs. Love the wedding, and the part where she says "If you ever die I'll kill you." Absolutely love "Evergreen," as well as the scene where Kris is composing "With One More Look At You" on the couch and the phone keeps ringing.
Okay, one more. The part that gets me every time is in the scene after Barbra discovers Kris in bed with the reporter...when his eyes well up and you can almost feel his remorse and love for her.

It's official...I'm obsessed.

From the film, I'd choose the finale/tribute to JNH. From the soundtrack, I love Crippled Crow and feel it was slighted by being virtually excluded from the film. Powerful lyrics!

I must admit I found the scene when Barbra Streisand bit Kristofferson when kissing was very hot.

My favorite songs were "Watch Closely Now" and "Hellacious Acres". I was in elementary school when I first saw "A Star Is Born". And I lived for rock music. When I saw Kris Kristofferson perform live I thought he should be crowned as the new "king of kool". I must admit I was a little disappointed when I discovered Kristofferson was a country music artist. Country was okay, but rock music ruled my world.
