Kris Kristofferson, horrible singer

I know he is an exceptional song writer but he sure has a horrible voice.

Not always. First, it's his style. It's primitive. It is not about high production values. If you listen to this whole piece, which seems to be the theme for some summer program on the Alamo, once he gets into it, it's good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g18SvdmzBz0 . In Star, he was playing a drunk, far more interested in pursuing momentary flights of fancy than singing the same ol' songs for the 5,000th or 10,000th time. He was supposed to be a lousy singer and performer at that late stage of his career (if you could call it that).

I saw this movie yesterday for the first time in years.

From the minute Kris opened his mouth to sing...I thought the same. Horrible voice indeed..

I agree!! I first saw this movie back in the 70's when it first came out and Kristofferson was fairly famous. He has an awful voice! I watched the movie again last weekend, then watched a few videos on Youtube, and his voice never improved. And although I think that he is a mediocre (at best) actor, and a horrible singer, for some reason I liked him in this movie. I really believed him as a burned-out rock star. It was Barbra Streisand I had more problems watching. She has the incredible voice, but it's hard to look at her as an innocent young girl now.

As if rock n roll is some classically oriented genre of music? I saw Kris back in '78 in a small club. Talk about a great story teller! One of the most meaningful performances I've seen! A show that Steve Perry or Freddie Mercury couldn't touch.

I never got him either, as a singer or actor. Yet, he's worked with everyone from Streisand to Ellen Burstyn. I dislike his voice; it's not my type, boring and speaking the song.

I'd say being a songwriter, gives him a little more credibility when he sings, even if it is awful. I also find him to be a charismatic actor and does have a strong masculine screen presence. Never had a problem with him in films.

Don't eat the whole ones! Those are for the guests. 🍪
