Favorite band member

So I just want to know who in the band Led Zeppelin is your favorite. Is it lead singer Robert Plant, whose wailing still ranks among the very best? How about guitarist Jimmy Page, who is pretty much the innovator for Zep? There is bass guitarist John Paul Jones, who is very underrated. And finally there is my personal favorite, drummer John Bonham, whose death was the end of Zeppelin but will forever be ranked with Keith Moon, Ringo Starr, and John Densmore. Each member of Zeppelin is unique in their own way, and each fan can relate to one of them.

Jimmy Page, only because the guitar is my fave instrument and he is my favorite guitarist, but I agree, everyone is special in there own way. None of them are bad.

Plant. I always wish I could sing like him. I was told once I do a damn good impression, but I'm pretty sure they were blowing smoke up my ass.

I feel that John Paul Jones is terribly underrated. I play bass, electric and acoustic guitar, and just started drums. Let me say, everyone knows Jimmy's great and Bonham was nasty... But some of the things Jones did with a bass...INSANE Jez, he also played keyboard, double bass, and mandolin...freakin' incredible

JPJ is underrated just cuz hes mainly bass but hes really talented with key boards mandolins and other instruments too probally

I'd have to say Robert Plant is my favourite because he has the best voice in the history of rock n' roll (second best ROGER DALTREY). And by the way you mentioned a bunch of great drummers (Keith Moon is the best) but you forgot to mention Neil Peart...?

reply

John Bonham definitely because he was an awesome drummer and a major influence on my playing. Sorry but RINGO STARR??? Ringo is no where near ANYONE.. hes down down DOWN on the list.. they only let him in the band cause he was ugly and the rest of the guys wanted the girls. I can see Keith Moon and John Densmore being up there. But not Ringo! come on man!! Matt Cameron is up there too.. You are forgetting over great drummers.... Chad Smith, Jose Pasillas.... not Ringo.. Alright im done with that.. Definitely John Bonham. Great drummer!

Gotta get my funkadelic drummin goin

i agree with this guy. Moby Dick blows me away evertime I listen to it or watch it on the DVD.

Robert Plant for the lyrics (mostly the earlier)... he can just weave the rhetoric together in a way that makes my head soar (so I don't even want to imagine what might have happened to my head in the 70's).

Page without a doubt. Without Page(among others like Chuck Berry), I may have never picked up a guitar, and I don't know where I would be without playing guitar today.

I'm going to have to go with the greatly underrated John Paul Jones. I mean Robert's an excellent singer, Jimmy's a great guitarist, and Bonzo was one of the best drummers who ever lived, but Jonesy's just an excellent musician in general. Awesome bassist, but also one of rock's foremost multi-instrumentalists. I'm a big fan of his keyboard style, and the way he uses bass pedals while playing keys live to compensate for the lack of bass guitar. Not to mention his way with string arrangements (i.e. Kashmir.)

I don't think Led Zeppelin would be the same without John Paul Jones.

It's hard to say. I give Plant the credit for being the sexiest man in rock and roll, but I think that Bonzo was probably the greatest member of the band. Page is incredible (better than Hendrix, I think), Jones undoubtedly had the most straight up talent (God bless him for working with the Davies brothers!), Plant obviously the greatest singer ever... but Bonzo - I can't even start with him. His drumming beats my brain to mush and back again. I think those amazing beats are the backbone of what makes Zeppelin so amazing, although none of those guys could have been as great as they were without each other. Either way, listen to Moby Dick or When the Levee Breaks and you'll see what I mean.

Definitely the greatest rock band to ever grace this planet...
