This is incredible, I can't believe Led Zeppelin did this.

Bollocks, as Jimmy Page himself would probably say.

there's just a few problems with that theory

1. plant only wrote the lyrics once when he heard page playing the music for it.

2. it's not a secret, everyone knows about, and i was even told in church that it was all a coincidence.

3. most of it isnt really that bad anyways.

botton line, while they were interested in the occult and magic, they didnt practice it, and they didnt "tweak" the lyrics so it can have some "pro satan" crap backwards. in fact in this movie, he starts off by saying that this is a "song about hope" or something like that.

on a further note, who's gonna worship satan just because of this song (forwards or backwards)? nobody.

All a bunch of crap. For one thing, how do we know they were actually playing Stairway backwards? The whole thing might be a giant wind-up.

Secondly, who is going to be daft enough to put a subliminal message backwards in a song? Who is going to hear it? Maybe it's just me, but when I buy music I prefer to hear it forwards, the way it was recorded. Why would anyone even consider playing a song backwards?

Exactly.

When I said I wanted to be a comedian, they all laughed at me. Well, they're not laughing now!

Many bands have in fact put backwards messages in their songs, on purpose. They aren't evil or satanic, and telling people to kill themselves, but they are there.

reply

Mmm, ok, so do you have an example? Song name and what the message is that has been inserted backwards? And where in the song?

This link is actual & factual backwards lyrics set into a B~52's song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-l6sy69CuAw&feature=related You can clearly hear that it is backwards lyrics in the song before the poster plays the song backwards. Yeah, I had this album on LP and played it backwards back then & fortunately did not ruin my needle

reply

There is a secret meaning in this song, but it has nothing to do with satan.

In the 70's there was always rumor of messages usually satanic in albums if you spun them backwards. Certain bands got more notoriety for this than others. Some of the bands like AC/DC and Black Sabbath kinda nudged those stories along because at the time, it was so fascinating to white middle class America. Bad is good when your a kid.. I remember bunches of different stories and I had most of the albums and never once did I hear any definitive subliminal messaging no matter how hard I tried and neither did anyone I knew either, just the conspiracy weirdo's who swore they heard it but then, you can hear anything if you want to bad enough. My friends Baptist mom made him throw away all of his AC/DC and Kiss albums one night after a church meeting about this crap and that's just what it is, crap. At that time adults swore Kiss stood for "Knights in Satan's Service" LOL.

In the 60's 70's and 80's we didn't have a pipeline to real band info. It was all very shadowy and a secret world which gave the bands more appeal. Magazines and radio were where you got some detail but friends at school is where most of it came from. No video or visual until the late 70's with Night Flight and then MTV. Both of which are now irrelevant because of the Internet. There may have been hidden pictures in album covers but subliminal Lyrics? Nope, not then and not until some idiots with to much time and access to digital recorders made good on the old stories and by then, nobody cared anymore. Would it be a big deal today? Hell no, they just play it in your face if they want to... Free speech remember?....

There most definitely is truth in that Jimmy Page was fascinated with the occult, knew Anton Crowley and even bought his home. He was not a satanist or a devil worshipper, he was simply fascinated with the ceremonial circus. He never joined, preached or even believed in the church.

Don't count on hell ever running out of room

I think you mean Aleister Crowley, and Page never actually knew him...he died when Page was just 3 years old.

It's Zep. If they did something that sucked, THAT would be incredible.

reply

I remember doing this with a Zep 4 cassette back in the 70s all you had to do was carefully let some tape out and fold it over so it went over the head flipped do this at the beginning and end of the song and it played backwards. The phrase "Here's to my sweet Satan" is definitely audible but everything else is just jibberish. Whether it is an audio coincidence or something Page inserted I have no idea

I have an mp3 of the backwards version of Stairway to Heaven....
It's true ..... I'm EVIL !!! 
