The women's roles were painful.

I saw this movie recently aftyer finding a bootleg DVD on eBay. The last time I saw it was probably 1980.

It has not aged well. The women's roles were just embarrassing to watch. Just so tacked-on and poorly written. Even I felt bad for them, and I'm a card-carrying misogynist. The way they shamelessly, desperately threw themselves at Robertson's character was cringe-worthy, as if it had been written by an angry, frustrated fifteen year old virgin.

Also, Helen Shaver is hands-down the worst actress in the history of cinema. She makes Rebecca Pidgeon or Dianne Nyland look like Vanessa freakin' Redgrave. That woman couldn't act her way onto the audience in late-night infomercial. You know you suck at acting when you make Robert Vaughan look good by comparison.

"You must have me confused with David Selznik. I don't make major motion pictures; I make crap."

Guess you're talking about Diane Nyland of "The Trouble With Tracey", which is probably a fair name to bring up when speaking of bad acting. But, surely you don't mean to suggest that the emmy-winning actor Robert Vaughn belongs in that category.

Ha! I gotta say the OP is right. This was pretty common in movies from the 60's & 70's though. Basically, any middle-aged, average to fairly unattractive male tough guy lead magically pulling several women.
