Did girlfriend Faye save Hawk's life in the pool?

This movie is 30 years old but I still enjoy it all the same. I learned the movie did receive a limited theatrical release yet it reminds me of one of the better, made-for-tv, fright movies of the early 70s. It is a rare, little-known gem that is highly underrated and should have been more famous.

I've watched this movie so many times and played the dvd tonight. I then realized that it's possible Hawk's unbelieving girlfriend, Faye, may have inadvertently saved Hawk's life in the pool when she turned on the building lights. The evil spirit strangling Hawk in the pool operated in the darkness and when Faye turned on the lights it drove off the evil spirit.

This type of spooky movie represented the apex of fright movies before computer-generated special effects.
