I understand the song "I Never Do Anything Twice," which is the most hilarious number on a Patti LuPone album that I have, is from this movie. I've never seen the movie, and I'm curious. When is the number sung, and what are the circumstances of the scene?
shareIt's strictly a bit of background filler in a brothel or supperclub scene. Some time since I've seen it, but I like the song, too, and it really doesn't get much due in the movie itself.
shareThe credits call it "The Madame's Song" as it is sung by the madame of a brothel in the film. The song was written by Stephen Sondheim:

In the film, the song is truncated, though it is hardly 'background'. Obviously Sondheim wrote a much longer version, though they couldn't have used the whole thing in the film, or perhaps he added the additional lyrics later. Anyway, the complete song would have stopped the film for an interminable length, and it is a mystery, not a musical.
