Ghastly...

what a waste of a group of beautiful men, a beautiful setting, and most of all my time. Apparently I'm not gay enough to appreciate Derek Jarman's 'creative vision'. Do not recommend this movie to anyone unless you really do not like them.

Hi airdrieguy! I find funny your words, even if I disagree! :)

There are some things I could say about this movie.

I'm agree with you about the waste of elements which should have been used for a better movie. The first time I watched it, I had big expectations but I was a bit disappointed since I've noticed something not "natural" in the acting. Watching it for the 2nd-3rd-... times, I got the poetic vision of the story. There are elements of pure poetry, like the scene of the shell!

I think Jarman had his own vision on Sebastiane. But according to his diary, there were troubles as soon as the shot started. The directors were two, there were quarrels between them and the crew, someone thought they wanted to do a porn instead of a historical movie, they had a low budget, etc. etc...

The effort to make a movie in Latin was a great thing, but it's a hard language even for Italians, imagine how English actors could menage it!

Still, to me especially Richard Warwick, who played Justin, made an amazing work. He was the most famous actor in the cast and Jarman chose him after having seen him in "If...".

And the Sardinian location is so beautiful (Cala Domestica)!
Well, this is my opinion... ;)
