Latin dialogue - not so genuine...
Maybe it wasn't entirely his idea, but Derek was 'avin' a larf with the Latin dialogue, I'm sure. Elsewhere, some have pondered if it were authentic latin 'as spoken by Roman guards'. Hmmmm - I don't think so!
After the larking about in the surf has gotten a mite boisterous, one of the guys yells at the other "Oedipus!!!!", which is subtitled as Mother-*Fudger* (if you get my drift - 'fudger' is just to avoid the censor)
lol
Another one, but just for us Brits:
Whilst having the bug cirus - where they were making dung beetles (was it?) fight each other, one of the less favoured, and rather villified beetles was given the name 'Maria Domus Alba', and they all yelled for it to be trounced.
Mary Whitehouse (the translation of the beetle's latin name), was a 'Public Decency' campaingner in 1970s Britain. She was also virulently homophobic, and so it was Derek's little joke to have the soldiers whooping and hollering for her demise in the arena of the dung beetles.
Good ol' Derek. He knew how to have a chuckle, I have to give him that...
