Can it be considerated...

... a nazi exploitation?

reply

yes sir! Only with a much larger budget than other nazi exploit films. This actually could have been an epic masterpiece with some serious editing and some other changes, but it's still lots of fun.

I wouldn't call The Damned and the Night Porter exploitation films at all.

Deciding what is and what isn't "exploitation" is very difficult. I see it like this: 1)What is the main reason the film was made? 2)What kind of audience is it aimed at? 3)Why were the scenes of sex and violence included?

If we are perfectly honest, in the case of Salon Kitty, the answers to these questions are: 1) To show sex and violence. 2) Those who enjoy sex and violence. 3) Because that's what the audience paid to see.

This makes it an exploitation film (my favourite genre!)

Because after all ... it's not like Tinto Brass, the director of literally dozens upon dozens of softcore porn flicks, would ever be dishonest about his intentions.

Salon Kitty probably owes more to The Damned, both in conception and aesthetic, than to lower-grade Nazi exploitation flicks (Ilsa and its ilk). But didn't The Damned veer somewhat into exploitation territory in the first place?

Yeah seriously, 'The Damned' was damn boring

If anything, is was a showpiece of the decadance of Nazi Officers. Ive read about some of the lavish trappings they had in offices. If anything, Brass was minimalist. The marble decor was standard in a lot of the higher ups offices. Berger was perfectly cast, almost too much so. There were quite a few officers that didnt like any of it, but had to go along, career wise. Berger was a fascinating caricature; decadant, power mad, spoiled, obsessive. Good performance of an "archetype".

What a bizarre film, whatever it is! Never seen so many boobs, bottoms and willies before! I was repulsed and fascinated at the same time!

Man, this is the absolute high-budget, artfully directed and photographed, even starring the incomparable Teresa Ann Savoy, pinnacle of Nazisploitation Cinema.
