So is it true?

That Kris and Sarah actually did the deed on camera or was it all made up by the publicity departments?

reply

true or not Kristofferson's wife whatshername left him afterward.

"google it if you dont think so ...."

reply

Her name is Rita Coolidge, and that marriage would have ended regardless of this film because of Kris' drinking.

I remember this film being featured in Playboy's "Sex in the Cinema" segment in the '70s. I miss the days when movies were more sexy and less violent.

reply

Kris had done some songs with a Christian (more or less) message like "Why Me, Lord?" and had professed to being a Christian just before this, so the evangelicals were all agog about a famous songriter being on "their" side. Then this movie - and the Playboy photo shoot - came out and they dropped him like a rock.

BTW, the Playboy photo spread was MUCH more revealing than the movie, and I believe I read Kris saying that he was reluctant to do it, then got REALLY drunk and said "what the hell".

Yes, Kris was sort of a "hippie Christian" in the early '70s, but that image seemed to fade as the decade went on.

So did the Playboy spread have shots that weren't in the movie, or did it just look more revealing because they were stills?

reply

It has been a long time, but if I recall correctly it was a separate photo shoot. The Playboy spread was much more explicit than anything Ive seen in the movie (although I only have the VHS version) and was brightly lit.

I don't remember where i saw the interview, maybe Rolling Stone?

Rolling Stone was probably it. Could it have been this cover maybe, from 1978? I have this in my archives (which is to say one of the boxes somewhere in my basement):

It sounds like Kris and Sarah did a separate pictorial for Playboy. I remember seeing stills from the film in the "Sex in the Cinema" edition of the magazine, but the shots I saw didn't seem that explicit that they would be something Kris would regret. I'm pretty sure it was just film stills I saw, though it was very long ago and I was very young (too young to be reading Playboy, actually ...).

Thanks so much for that important piece of ... um ... history!

reply

Don't know whether it's true but I can tell you the rumor really was widely believed, or at least repeated, at the time.
