Does the last fight happen on July 4 or Jan 1?

I just saw this movie on a list of "greatest 4th of July movies" but didn't the last fight happen on New Years Day even though the characters talk about it as "America's 200th Birthday"?

Also, when Adrianne comes into the arena at the end she’s wearing a wool hat.
