Torrance?

So Mike and the bots have a good laugh at the 13 hour window to make it from Torrance to Long Beach, something that would usually take about 30 minutes, 60 tops, but Sam mentions they're driving through Cedarville pretty early on and Google Maps says that's a just over 11 hours away from Long Beach.

What is the actual starting point? Where did Torrance come from? I don't remember Torrance being mentioned in the first part of the movie. The truck starts at Intersect. Could it be that Intersect HQ is located in Torrance but Sam had to first drive to Dr. Hale's lab to get the Tripoladine (sp?) and the essential laundry bags, located somewhere beyond beyond Cedarville? When the mustacheless Leonard calls Sam says he "just arrived at the lab" and then they load everything up. I don't know how Sam would have gotten from Torrance to Hale's lab unless he drove through the night and he's running on no sleep. That fade away jerk handshake looked pretty well rested to me so I don't think that's the case. I don't know...

This is one of my favorite episodes but the starting point of the trip has always confused/bugged me. Maybe it's better explained in the actual TV episode.
