They don't make 'em like this anymore!

For years I'd read and heard about the notorious spoof QUEEN KONG, one of many films that fell victim to litigation in the wake of Dino De Laurentis' 1976 KING KONG remake. Finally the film is out on home video, with the deluxe DVD treatment, no less! A gender bender retelling of the KING KONG tale, with all the male and female roles reversed, the film plays like a prolonged Benny Hill skit. (In fact, one almost wants to go over the credits carefully to be sure Benny wasn't behind this.) A film you'll either love or hate, it can be safely said you've never seen anything like it!

I saw it just for fun after reading about it for years. It's actually pretty clever and draws on the macho assumptions from "King Kong", only reversing the roles so that the women are entitled chauvanists while the men are imperiled waifs. It follows the original "King Kong" storyline closely for the most part and opts to refigure the finale as a Women's Lib rallying cry. Even the songs are entertaining and Robin Askwith is engaging as Ray.

I haven't seen it... Is it as bad as people say it is? What are the effects like?

Ramones, the best band ever.

They're somewhere between "King Kong vs. Godzilla" and Sid and Marty Krofft.

I have watched a good number of giant monkey movies in recent days, and I have to say that the worst one that I've seen is the Mighty Gorga.
Ape is bad, as is Konga, and King Kong Escapes, but Gorga has them all beat. If you want to see a good review on these types of movies, go to my website timothynoble.com and click on the Killer Monkey Movies link near the bottom of the page.
