Police Python 357 deprivation!

I saw Police Python 357 upon its initial (only?) release in the states.
Like most, I loved it and have waited for a DVD release in the US.
Only available in France, and in French. A great police action drama that truly deserves American release. Since I firmly believe all good films eventualy get released (take Across the Bride for example) I will patiently wait.

I saw this movie in Italy when it was released, and I still remember as one of the best moves of this kind I have seen. tension is great, and the acting of Montand is superbe.
Never seen on tv, no vhs or dvd available. It's a real pity.

Even though it's only in french, surely it'll have English subtitles?

reply

That's debatable. If its meant to be a pan-European DVD, perhaps it will have English subtitles -- but maybe it won't, maybe its an inexpensive catalog release with no special features, no subtitles and almost no menu.

Does anyone know how common it is for French language Region 2 DVDs to have English subtitles? How about other releases in their native languages -- subtitles and what language(s)?

I guess it would be in keeping with the running gag about the French for it to be in French only.

If you loved this movie, you should watch "Le cercle rouge" (The red circle) which is the same kind, a little bit older (6 years), but a great and perfect reference, ever.

Don't know if released in US.

If you can, watch it in original version (with subtitles !): the atmosphere is incredible. It probably makes 50% of the movie.

I totally agree with you. "Police Python" is a great movie, but "Le Cercle rouge" is a true masterpiece.
