slow motion fight scene...

the scene with Clouseau and Cato near the beginning is quite possibly the most hilarious scene ever filmed

the slow motion bits made me cry

it was almost like that scene in the matrix

i always loose it when the num-chuck hits cato in the back of the neck and makes a thud while popping off lolz. i dont even see anything after that cuz my eyes are closed laughing. great movie. great time period. cant be duplicated.

reply

The thing that makes it hilarious, at least for me, is the slowed down voices. I also love the little preamble where they're swinging the weapons around (obviously sped up footage) like escapees from a particularly bad martial arts movie.

I used to watch this movie all the time and this scene especially I had to rewind a couple of times each time.

the Cross-cutting between Clouseau & Cato vs Dreyfus is hilarious, the first time I saw it I was on the floor with tears in my eyes, I laughed so hard.

I even ripped the audio and have it on my cell phone as a text message alert.

I have always listed this scene (the whole fight scene starting with him searching out the apt, Lom downstairs with the periscope, up until the the phone call,) as the single funniest bit ever filmed in any movie.

reply

Agreed, the fight, and particularly the nun-chuck scene and the scene where Lom falls back in slow motion and hits the floor with what is best described as a "moo" is just hysterical.

reply

my family makes we watch that just to watch me laugh at that scene.

This is one scene that makes me laugh, and I mean really laugh no matter how often I watch it. The best part for me is when Dreyfuss has the periscope protruding up through the ceiling on Clouseau's floor. Clouseau makes a dash towards Kato, and in the process he trips up over the protruding periscope lens, which in turn causes Dreyfuss to fall of the table he's standing on.

The fall of Dreyfuss, and the fall of Clouseau are done in slow motion complete with their cries. Absolutely hilarious. They even do one final little grunt from Dreyfuss after he hits the floor.

This is definitely the best fighting scene from the PP movies (although Cato hiding in the freezer in the previous one was hilarious, too) - the buildup, Clouseau wearing the yukata, Dreyfus in the downstairs apartment, the high-speed weapon showoff, the yells, the slow motion, the wreckage... all a hilarious parody of martial arts movies...

Hmmm?

reply

This is the best scene ever. I love that after Clouseau steps on Dreyfus's finger and lets it go, the finger goes from being curled to actually upright for a second or two before Dreyfus falls. Dreyfus is just suspense in midair for a moment!

reply

"Suspended," my bad.

The dull thud made by the nunchucks hitting Cato.....probably one of the funniest moments saved to celluloid.
