Was there supposed to be something wrong with Laura Lee?

The woman in the bar tells Grandma Sarah that her son used to write about a daughter who was a little "odd". Also, before this scene, she talks to Josey about cloud formations.

Was she - how can I put this delicately - somewhat mentally impaired?

I always thought she was looked upon as just very naive, but maybe she could of been classed a little bit simple or slow.

It was definitely my impression that a mule had kicked her in the head as a child. Or something to that effect. Lot of folks got their brains cooked by fevers back in the day. I think there was a lot of strange folks running around.
