On a scale of 1 to 10, how well do you think this film has aged?

Looking back at this film, one can certainly feel hard-pressed to think this was made all in 1976. The characterization of Wales was perhaps Clint's most ambiguous and complex role at the time, when he seemed to be getting type-cast as an unstoppable badass thanks to his earlier roles. In fact, I see this as perhaps a deconstruction of his "Man with No Name" persona that made him famous in the first place.

Granted, there are some scenes, such as the final shootout, where it does come off as a very conventionally made Western, but other than that, I couldn't see how this film is in anyway, dated.

Overall, I give it a 9.

Aged well. 8/10.

10 for me it is the perfect film and I have written in length on this site about why I believe so.

All things considered I'd say it has aged extremely well-9 out of 10.

This is easily one of my favorite Clint movies, and among the top of his Westerns. It is gritty, realistic (yeah, I know him dodging bullets in the early shootout is a bit hard to believe) and has held up as good as any film. Because it's a Western there are no factors that reveal when it was made (like huge cell phones). The characters are well-drawn, realistic and what you would expect. No "pretty cowboys" with modern haircuts and clean-shaven.

I have it in my DVD collection along with many others of Clint. A great actor, director and American!

As for how this film has aged, I say 10+. I consider this the best Western ever made. This is Clint Eastwood's epic vision of the American West, and almost certainly the most accurate account of that time ever put on film. This film amazes me to this day, after almost 40 years, and 50 viewings.

An absolute masterpice of American Cinema, 5 Stars out of 5.

It is a 10 now.Only thing that burns me bad was Brave White Men killing Brave
Whie Men 700,000 dead. All Lincoln had to do was send the boats.

This film is now 37 years old and it's still great! Whenever I'm channel surfing and it appears, I usually watch it until the end. It is my favorite Eastwood film - and that's saying a lot. Also, the performance of Chief Dan George is wonderful. Others, including John Vernon and Woodrow Parfrey give their usual workmanlike performances. The Sondra Locke character is just OK, but Grannie I a hoot.

This was probably the last of the great westerns - until "Unforgiven". Hmmm.

It's a TEN.

Do westerns have to "age well"? Think the charm is in the age.
