DVD

Any word on if this movie will be made into a DVD? Warner Bros is the American Distributor.

reply

It already is available on DVD, you just have to ask your local movie place (Suncoast has it, for example) to order it for you, as they probably don't have it on hand.

Good luck, if you haven't already bought it.

A Korean DVD (English-language) has recently been released - I got it via eBay.

It has obviously been taken from a VHS source, and the sound is sometimes a bit quiet, but overall it's a decent transfer and I'm very glad to have the chance to see this film again.

if you go to an ebay site called 'freshlemons' you can obtain a good copy from them at a very good price, mine cost me £7.99 inc postage from korea.

It is fullscreen, though.

I recently required a copy of the film on DVD.However as it was of Korean origin I was a bit sceptical but I need not have worried. It was in excellent condition and quality excellent.A friend of mine ordered it for me through E-BAY.
So its out there if you want it.

I also acquired a copy of the Korean DVD. Unlike you I did not find the quality good. The merging of the colours was reminiscent of a VHS that has been copied too many times. Also, although you can turn off the Korean subtitles, the German conversation is not translated into English as the original, even when using English subtitles. If you speak good German you will be O.K. It is nice to keep as a record but I was disappointed, since it was a first-class film and historically very accurate. I also acquired a Spanish copy of Cross of Iron and this was very different. I am very happy with the quality of this one.

Does anybody know if there are any future plans for an actual proper Region 1 DVD release?

This movie sounds great, and I'd like to get it, but don't want to have to learn German, get a VCR, or deal with a low quality product.

Any info appreciated!

Yes if anyone from Warner or whoever holds the rights stumbles across this page you can see that there is quite a healthy demand for a quality dvd release-where the bloody hell is it then?

reply

It is such a shame that I cannot buy a good quality version of this movie from a proper DVD store. I know of a lot of people who would dearly love to own this on DVD.

The Korean dvd is probably worth buying as a stop-gap and considering you can also get it for as little as £2.99 on ebay now.Haven`t seen the film for a while but pleasantly surprised at how good it remains.Memorable scenes,action-packed finale although posts have already pointed out slight inaccuracies with actual events.Even so Differing is good as Heydrich,Andrews & Bottoms make no attempt with their accents but do a reasonable enough job.Nice location shooting and effective soundtrack too, which despite the incongruity of using a synth, actually works well.I`m amazed that no one ,apart from a small independent label in Korea, has deemed this worthy of a dvd release!

reply

I've got the Korean DVD, it's OK but the quality is similar to videotape. The English subtitles are very strange indeed as though a Korean with rather poor English skills got the job of writing them. Comically he tries to translate the German speaking parts too phonetically at times!
A decent DVD perhaps coupled with the documentary I saw on Discovery a few years ago would be nice.

reply

Yes you`re right it`s no better than a video and shown in 4/3 pan-scan.I tried putting on the English subtitles during the German scenes and a curious message came up like "wish it was in my own language or something similar".

WHERE CAN I FIND THE DVD

reply

E bay.

reply

Warner Archives has released it. Unfortunately, no subtitles, so if you don't understand German, you can't understand the many scenes with German in it.

reply

The subtitles for the Warner release are now readily available.

It means doing something like

a. rip DVD to your PC using Handbrake
b. Re-burn the video rip burning in the subtitles
c. Burn the result to a DVD or
d. Get a media player and play everything you own direct off've your networked disk drive.
