One of the best soundtracks ive ever heard..

I have the album and think it is simply a masterpiece. .The whispers on some of the tracks is pure genius. ..Hats off to "Goldmith"...definitely made this film what it is...

reply

Agreed 1000%.

Goldsmith really shined here. As great as most of his other material was, did you know this was the only award he EVER won?!

Deserved for sure, but he did other amazing works as well.

I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?
Penfold, shush.

reply

Yes i did..what a crime eh?..

Unforgettably chilling. Your mention of the "whispers" on the soundtrack reminds me of the scene with Damien's rottweiler coming down the dark hallway. With expert cinematography, lighting, and most notably fantastic music, a seemingly mundane scene is transformed into something purely horrific.

There's a few moments in the film where some electronic music is heard on the soundtrack, one in particular when Damien first sees the dog outside and waves to it. I've often wondered if Jerry Goldsmith was responsible for these bits, also, because they sound so different and unusual from the symphonic style of his main score...more like a sound effect than a musical cue. Anyone know antyhing about this?

I support the right of free speech. I also support the right to not listen to a lot of it.

Jerry Goldmith was definitely responsible for any electronic sounds heard on the soundtrack. Logan's Run was also released in 1976 and used electronics even more prominently. Goldsmith began experimenting with combining electronics with symphonic music at around the time this was made, and continued the practice right up to the end of his career.

reply

This is an absolutely brilliant piece of music.

It terrifies me! In fact the film wouldn't be half as unsettling without this score.

Man was a musical genius.

Do the P-I-G-E-O-N

reply

I agree. The music chills me even w/o the movie.

reply

Absolutely, this is my go to soundtrack when discussing all time horror greats. The chanting is sublime.

reply

Well, Jerry Goldsmith was brilliant, so this score shouldn't surprise you. I wish we had composers like him today.

I am not a fan. I just happen to enjoy movies. Fans are embarrassing.

reply

Agreed. It is amazing. Almost a miracle of beauty.

reply

Definitely. I think everything about the movie is good, but the music particularly stands out and makes it unforgettable. It fits the movie perfectly.
