What did you think of The Omen (1976)? SPOILERS

I kind of like it and it has a good premise for a horror movie, with some really good creepy sequences. However, the execution does suffer from a couple of plot holes.

They never explain why the guy who knows the truth about what is happening to the son, doesn't just tell the parents the truth. Instead he just gives them little rantings here and there, for the parents to have to figure out for themselves, and coming off as a crazy weirdo as a result... when he could just calmly explain everything to them instead. Why?

I also didn't get the climax where the father finds the '666' on the boy's head, hidden within the hair. If the boy was born with a '666' on his head as a birthmark, wouldn't parents notice this, after birth, before the kid's hair grew in?

What do you think?

Regarding the 666 on Damien's head, he was born with hair, so the mark was not visible. Also, at the time, Robert and Kathy wouldn't have had any reason to be looking for unusual birthmarks.

The priest that tried to warn Robert had a lot working against him. He was dying, frantic and desperate to redeem himself. But any person who says to a parent "Your son is the Antichrist" is going to be dismissed as a crazy weirdo no matter how calmly they deliver the news.

So, if I were raising a foundling, I wouldn't readily believe he was the son of the devil just because someone told me so. Any reasonable person would have reacted the same way as Robert.

The priest was dying of cancer and shot himself up with morphine two to three times a day. This was stated in the film. That is why he couldn't clearly explain himself, not that a clear explanation would have made Thorn believe. Far from a plot hole.

I am not a fan. I just happen to enjoy movies. Fans are embarrassing.

He has trouble even getting access to the ambassador. Most non-diplomatic people would have trouble getting to see the ambassador - a lot would get fobbed off with an assistant if they tried to make an appointment. And even the most laid-back approach sounds nuts -"Mr Thorn, do you know your adopted son is the prince of darkness?" - Yes, this is not a plot hole.

"Chicken soup - with a *beep* straw."
