Why does this movie creep me out so much?

I have watched a lot of movies and only a few give me the feeling that this movie does. This movie, for some reason, disturbs and haunts me so badly that I cannot watch it at night. The only other movie that has even come close to having this same effect on me is The Titanic, when I first came out but I've managed to get past that. I guess because I've seen it so many times. However, this movie continues to haunt me so much that I've only watched it once or maybe twice. It's weird because it reminds me a lot of Brokeback Mountain but BM doesn't have nearly the same effect on me. Does anyone else ever have this feeling about a movie that's not intended to be a horror film?

Huh? How is Titanic like Ode to Billy Joe? And how is Ode to Billy Joe like Brokeback Mountain? I'm just trying to make the connection between those movies. The only thing I can guess is that in each of the movies one of the main characters dies.
