Clyde Baxter, what a great name

this was just on hbo the other night and i watched it again. saw it when it first came out and many times later on cable. a great movie by a great director with a stellar cast. lenny baker was a real talent. i remembered him im Paper Chase too. Chris Walken was superb, who knew back then he would become so successful. Jeff Goldblum's scene stealing part was hilarious. Also kudos to one of my favorites Antonio Fargas, first saw him in Across 110th Street. also
Joe Spinell of Godfather fame,Lois Smith who went on to make so many memorable films, and even Dori Brenner who was to me kinda sexy in a certain way.

i did notice for the first time that Bill Murray had a scene in a bar. i didnt know he was in it but it looked so much like him. I guess thats whats so great on seeing a film 20 or 30 yrs after its release, you get to see how great actors started out.

I realize this is an old post, but I'd seen -and really loved- Next Stop years ago and just caught it last week on cable. I wish I'd been paying much closer attention, because I thought I saw Bill too, in the rent party scene. I will definitely get my mitts on the DVD ASAP and check on that.

You're right - the cast was amazing, and pretty much everyone stole their scenes. (But not in a distracting way.) I found myself wishing I knew these people, like I could just give everything up and wake up in the Village in 1953 with a handful of new best friends. I also agree Goldblum was very bright as Clyde, and though he had little screen time, he was truly brilliant.

This is such an underrated film and though even I'd all but forgotten it, it's at the top of my recommendations list now, and it will stay there.
