Heard about this movie .....

Since it originally came out but never took the time to watch it until just now. A couple observations. I never knew how much William Holden looked like Richard Crenna. I can't believe Beatrice Straight won a supporting actress Oscar for one lousy 5 minute scene. I don't remember the name of the black actress but SHE should have won that award. What in the hell was that with Faye Dunaway's character rambling non-stop about work on her date with William Holden even right up till they were having sex? That was really weird. Saw some other faces in there I recognized without realizing they were in the movie. Most notably was Conchata Ferrell and Lance Henrickson. While I enjoyed the movie well enough I doubt I'll take the time to watch it a second time.

Nice catch of Lance.. it was a nice surprise...

Beatrice Straight was good... but I agree, Marlene Warfield was great in her role.. and SHE should have won the supporting actress.

Lots of great bits.... Robert Duvall, Peter Finch, Holden was great..
Dunaway was excellent.. and Ned Beatty's little speech was great.

I agree that Winfield should have at least been nominated.

I can't believe you didn't see Dunaway's behavior in the bed scene as perfectly in synch with Dunaway's character in the rest of the movie. Of course it was weird.

While I think Beatrice Straight's seen wasn't at all lousy (it was actually very good) it's not much to win an Oscar for. Also Diana Christensen talking about work all throughout sex was great, it totally shows what a soulless workaholic who cares about nothing but her professional life and accomplishments she is. That's a pretty major part of the movie's themes, I'm surprised you found it so baffling.

I didn't find her talking anywhere near as baffling as William Holden putting up with it. I get the whole "older man entranced by the younger woman thing" (being an older man myself) but I would have told her to shut the hell up long before he finally ditched her.
