Any Thomas McGuane fans out there?

Someone once told me that "The Missouri Breaks" and "Rancho Deluxe" are pretty much the same movie. The difference is that the former takes place in the late 19th century and the latter is set almost 100 years later.
I also find it interesting that the great Harry Dean Stanton is in both movies!

They're definitely similar. I originally checked out Rancho Deluxe because I liked MB. Nowadays, I prefer Rancho Deluxe as it takes itself less seriously. The last time I saw Missouri Breaks (over 20 years ago) it didn't seem as good as I remembered.

I'm a huge McGuane fan. I've read most of his novels (nearly all out of print here in the UK) and I find him twisted and hilarious, though occasionally incomprehensible. His dialogue is fantastic.

"You get tired of your own obsessions, the betrayals, the voyeurism, the twisted sexuality"
