S&M movie I have ever seen. First I thought Secretary was the best, then I saw Going Under and thought that is better but this one cracks the whip.
Some of the S&M scenes are really difficult, if not impossible, to watch. It amazes me how some people do such things in real life. And then there is that horse shot...totally grusome. And right after that scene, he goes to a horse meat shop and orders steak!!!
Watch it if you want to see some serious S&M scenes.
I haven't seen Going Under but comparing this film with Secretary I agree, Maitresse if the better of the two. It was more humorous and darker than Secretary and had a less 'neat' ending. I didn't find the S&M scenes difficult to watch rather I was fascinated and wondered if they were filmed for real as they seemed to be happening as we saw them.

I'm quite convinced that the S&M scenes were real. That's what I found most surprising. I'm also convinced that most if not all of the clients were actually experienced fetishists. Leave it to the French for realism I suppose. I'm glad I figured that out before the slaughterhouse scene so that I could skip over it. Now I'm wondering whether the actors actually had sex in the final driving scene. I find it more believable that they had sex than they were actually driving.
I haven't seen Going Under either. On the whole, I think that Secretary is a better movie than this but I find them to be so different that I would not really compare them. They each bring something quite unique.

Ditto on this... it all looked entirely real, especially the guy who got his piece nailed to the board and his nipples pierced .
That was tough to watch... the horse slaughter was even tougher, but not as bad as the horse slaughter in Carne. I did ff through most of that scene though.
I couldn't watch the slaughter at all. I'm vegetarian and skipped over it. Luckily it was easy guessing what was coming. Meat eaters should watch it though.
