Help: Plot-point I'm a bit fuzzy on...[spoiler alert]

In the movie (and novel), Doc and Janey are lovers. Szell kills Doc -- why isn't Janey all-that-upset with Szell? Did he not know Szell killed him? True, Janey does seem to be quite the bastard, but after all, they were lovers...

Just because you're having sex with someone doesn't mean you care about them. People betray their lovers all the time.

Janeway is only out for Janeway.

In the book, Babe sees Janeaway as a parasite, without loyalty, someone who sides with the winning side.

"Did he not know Szell killed him?"

Not only does he know Szell killed him, but he actually played a role in setting him up to be killed.

In the scene where he looks over Doc's body, you can see a certain amount of grief in the expression on his face, but he simply suppresses it in favor of his devotion to his job and/or own self-interests.
