Who was "Jackie"? Doc kept saying Jackie get your ass over here.

When Doc was in Paris, he invited Jackie to share his digs at least 2 times, saying "Jackie get your ass over here." Some folk on these boards suggest that Doc and Janeway were lovers. Was Jackie a nickname for Janeway? Or was Jackie just an old flame who lived in Paris? Were we ever meant to know the answer?

It was shorthand for Janeway, as in "Janie". I saw this movie when I was about 10 and had no idea the two were a couple. Like you, I figured he was just talking to some random French girl he knew and wanted her to come over.

Janie was Janeway (William Devane). His boyfriend.

Thanks to all who answered my question - that went straight over my head. I'm pretty niave about these things, I thought the Moody Blues were singing about Knights in white satin and that Dire Straits got money for nothing and cheques for free.

Justified now a beautiful song.

He never said "Jackie"; he said "Janey".

Janey not Jackie. Kind of an important miss. Lol

reply

Nope- I would have assumed it was a woman named Jane - still over my head whoosh whoosh

It was quite the trick...and "Janey" made it sound more feminine than Jackie(which could mean Gleason back then.)

reply

Was really unnecessary in this film for any gay angle.
