Was his planet Earth?

Was Newtons planet actually Earth in the future and he was travelling back in time? This thought struck me when he and Candy are at the lakeside and he's having one of his flahbacks/forwards to his planet and in the scene the hilly desert seems to match the contours of the hillside overlooking the lake.Any thoughs?

Interesting, and there's nothing to suggest otherwise - in fact when asks exactly where he comes from, Newton points towards the horizon - "down there" he says. If we take the film as an analogy, he could be pointing at England and the film's true meaning is about the director's take on a foreigner's experience of America.

I always took the flashbacks to mean he exists slightly outside our timeframe. Others get older but he doesn't.

Time I mentioned a lot, but if he could travel through time, what's his rush to get back to his family?

This movie is an enigma, which is why I love it so much.
