Itaylor1973, you certainly didnt imagine a thing!
Im sorry, I know exactly how you feel.
I watched Mala Morska Vila on English TV, in the 70's,
It was on ITV, because it was around Christmas time and i was hypnotised by this beautiful tale , and I remember darting off to find orange squash, inbetween the adverts.
I fell in love with it, the same way I did, "The Singing Ringing Tree" and I too have looked for an English version of this Film, Directed by Karel Kachyna, and starring Miroslava Sanfrankova, around about 1975-76?
I wish I could understand German, because that is the only version that seem's to be available on amazon.de of this great film, it is so frustrating because it is only in German with out Multi-Lingual subtitles as far as i know .(please correct me if I am wrong)... this is doubly frustrating because hey! what about us? why cant it be available for us??!

I know a lot of English speakers who would dearly love to get their paws on this piece of childhood nostalgia.
I saw it twice in the 70's as it was repeated again, I remember the haunting music and the underwater scenes of the little mermaid playing on the Ocean bed with her sisters, truly magical.
Years later I saw the "Walt Disney The Little Mermaid" and although it was fun, "Mala Morska Vila"(in czech which was where this film is originally from) or "Die kleine Meerjungfrau"(the German title) was much more faithfull to the original "Hans christian Anderson" Fairy Tale that my sister told me.

I appeal to everyone reading this, please tell us where can we get an English subtitled DVD copy of this film.... Why are we wai-ting??

ps, If anyone was a fan of the "Tales from Europe" series that used to be on BBC from the 60's to the 80's just go to the singing ringing tree website, you will find it on google, and also, try Russian website called "RUSICO", for all the Russian Tales from Europe.(remember the snow queen etc) or the German "DEFA"
cheers and good luck.

Does anyone know if this film is animated or not? I realize that it contains a lot of live action, but is there some stop-motion animation in it?
