Surprisingly violent.

There was a lot of violence in this film, something I was not used to with Australian movies. Strong story and great performances.

Those moments of violence were quite brutal and shocking. The scenes in the prison in particular were very harsh and harrowing in equal measure.

Yes it was. The prison scenes where brutal. One could imagine the horrors of sharing the same cell with those ape-like prisoners who rape Morgan. Brutal and nightmarish.

I've seen some very violent Australian films, but this takes it up (or is it down?) a notch.

I think the producers are quoted somewhere as saying they wanted to make a Peckinpah - like Australian western on a tiny budget.

reply

I could see Peckinpah as a major influence here.

Seems like the version currently on amazon has a LOT of the violence edited out. Not nearly as effective a movie as the original cut.
