At least try to make it look Canadian.

When the cop is selling raffle tickets for a Thanksgiving turkey - Canadian Thanksgiving is the second weekend of October and would have been long over as this movie starts on Halloween night.

I doubt a small Quebec town could get enough kids to fill out a football team. Hockey would have been the obvious sport for a Quebec small town in the 1970s.

reply

It might have been filmed in Canada but is supposed to take place in Maine.

reply

took place in Quebec.

reply

Sorry youre wrong. It takes place in Wells Harbor, Maine but was filmed by a French-Canadian crew in Knowlton, Quebec.

reply

did you read the description of the movie above?

"The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane (1976) (movie): 13-year-old Rynn Jacobs lives alone in a high-class Quebec small town, but unknown to the neighbors, she is leading a secret and dangerous life."

reply

The movie mentions that it is in Quebec and Canada several times.

reply

I'll have to watch it again to verify. I'd always read it's in Maine even if filmed in quebec.

reply

The cash that Rynn spends is American.

reply

It doesn't even mention Quebec once.

The cop has a badge that says Wells Harbor, Maine on it.

Obviously the OP read a faulty description that mixed up where the movie was filmed and where it takes place.

reply

I think that's erroneous. Everything else I'm seeing says it was filmed in Canada. A big reason is that they wanted to take advantage of tax incentives.

They were actually filming in Canada but trying to make it look like the US, not the other way around, so all the signs they are in America like American money aren't a mistake.

reply

Like a said, whoever wrote that short summary on Metacritic mixed up where the movie was filmed and where it's actually taking place.

On Wikipedia: "On Halloween night, in the seaside town of Wells Harbor, Maine, Rynn Jacobs celebrates her thirteenth birthday alone. She and her father, Lester Jacobs, a poet, had recently moved to the village from England. Frank Hallet, adult son of their landlady Cora Hallet, visits unexpectedly and, finding her alone, makes unwelcome sexual advances toward Rynn."

On Rottentomatoes: "Quiet, withdrawn 13-year-old Rynn Jacobs (Jodie Foster) lives peacefully in her home in a New England beach town. Whenever the prying landlady (Alexis Smith) inquires after Rynn's father, she politely claims that he's in the city on business. But when the landlady's creepy and increasingly persistent son, Frank (Martin Sheen), won't leave Rynn alone, she teams up with kindly neighbor boy Mario (Scott Jacoby) to maintain the dark family secret that she's been keeping to herself."

Officer Miglioriti's car had Wells Harbor, Maine on it, too. While a lot of the exteriors were shot in CA, many were also done in Southern Maine. I even walked the same path (Marginal Way) that they tossed Hallet's keys into the ocean.

reply

I don't think it was supposed to take place in Quebec. In addition to the discrepancies noted above, no one in the movie had a French-Canadian accent.

Knowlton is a bilingual Victorian town near Vermont.

They speak French in Vermont?
